Before the Rebels
Let’s go back in time once again, this time to Cork, the people’s republic, in 1902.
The ordinary folk of the city are going about their business like any other day.
What you see here is a totally different city from what you will see today.
Note the Union Jacks which flies high on the right hand side of the street.
The city here is still coming to grips with the horrors it experienced just over 50 years before this photo during the great famine, and its just 14 years away from the Easter Rising, 17 years from the war of independence, 18 years from the burning of Cork City (which would change how it looks forever) and 20 years from the Irish Civil War.
Can you imagine the things these people have seen? And what they are about to see?
